Updated: Jan 2

What do you mean you quit!? Are you crazy..you sold your house!?? Where will you live?!

Pulling up to the Farm
Pulling up to the Farm

All those questions plus many more from our concerned friends and family on our drastic decision to uproot our lives to move out to the family farm in an RV and help assist Dan's parents. With much prayer, we felt at peace about every decision and every step of the process. We were needed here in more ways than just helping with care. The farm needed us.

We had never really given living on the farm much thought in the past because we honestly didn't think it was even an option. But the more time we spent out here with Dan's parents, the more we felt the tug to move here permanently and take over the family business that had been put on the shelf for many years.

People ask me if it's hard living in a 42 ft. RV full time. I'd be lying if I said it was always easy, but it definitely is not as difficult as I first imagined it would be. God has blessed us with the

most peaceful view of a pond and the sunrise in the morning. In the evenings I see the most breathtaking sunsets. Living in a tiny space has caused us to really asses what we "need" and not what we "want." Keeping things organized and having a spot for everything is crucial to not losing your mind. It only takes a few things out of place to make the RV look like a disaster! It definitely takes team work from both of us. When we bring something new into the RV, something old needs to go!

We love our tiny and cozy home. It's sort of like living in small apartment. We have a washer and dryer, separate bedroom, an office and all the outdoor space a person could wish for! ha ha.

The hardest part of living in an the RV is by far is winter time. We help keep the RV warm by adding insulation foam around the bottom. This has helped tremendously! We have a 4 season RV that is designed for colder temperatures and we of course have a heated water hose to keep us from having freezing pipes. She's not the prettiest thing to look at in the winter but she's a whole lot warmer!

For internet, we use Starlink. That truly has been amazing! We get amazing internet speeds and so far have only lost connection when we had a severe thunderstorm. We highly recommend it.

WHAT'S OUR LONGTERM PLAN?

We are currently working with an architect and a builder with the plan to renovate the historic hay barn into our home. We are hoping to preserve as many of the unique features as possible and make this a home that many friends and family will enjoy with us. Our main living area will be upstairs (reverse floor plan) so that we can have the amazing views of the ranch.

The barn was built in the early 1900's to hold square hay bales up in the large loft area. We no longer store or bale hay like this anymore so the barn has basically been used as a place for old junk to go for many years. Our cattle don't come into the barn as they shelter in the many natural wind shelters we have such as thick evergreen trees and shrubs, and tall grasses. They truly prefer finding shelter this way.

We will share our barn renovation into house journey with you as we make progress. It's an exciting project and we are looking forward to big things to come!

We will keep you posted!
